For OUR Members

WELCOME, MEMBERS!

As members, we work together to build a community within Bed-Stuy that has access to healthy, delicious food from local suppliers that is grown organically and in environmentally and socially responsible ways.

Through our work, we are able to keep prices down for equal or better quality products than those available in local markets. We are committee members, floor workers, cashiers, buyers, builders, and so much more!

COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS

The following statements were adopted in the February/March 2021 General Meeting. They were collaboratively created by Member-Owners with the intentions to create a more generous and cooperative spirit within the Store, in General and committee meetings, and in digital communications.

  • Take space/make space - Be aware and active in creating room for multiple voices to be heard while also sharing one’s personal opinions.

  • Ask for clarity - Default to curiosity.  Information can move quickly and not everyone is always up to date on the inner workings of every committee. Without blame or shame, we can ask what work has been done before, without assuming no one has worked on it or thought about it.

  • Center cooperation - Think about who is already working on certain areas and look to learn from them and explore areas for collaboration before proposing something new in a meeting.

  • Move through defensiveness towards shared learning and responsibility.

  • Open space for disagreement and multiple perspectives - We don’t all have to agree all the time, we’re making the best decisions we can with the information and resources we have currently.

  • We operate always with a commitment to anti-racism and dismantling systemic oppression.
